Haiku

Haiku poetry is a very short, centuries-old form of Japanese poetry. Haiku is like a photo that captures the essence of what’s happening, often connecting two seemingly unrelated things. Most traditional haiku are about the seasons. For this class the children were asked to write a haiku about spring or their trip to the zoo. We then illustrated the poem using traditional Sumi ink painting and a traditional Japanese signature seal, called a chop or hanko.
